The Other West Moore: Blog Prompt - Page xi
Blog Prompt 6: Page xi “The author explains that Wes Moore’s life is different because he made different decisions when it came to life choices. Have you ever made a decision that you believe could have altered your life path?”
I appreciate how realistic this topic is since I am currently living on the changed life path that my decision put me on. We all have to make decisions in our lives, which might be for the better or for the worse, but decisions must be made every day. From waking up and contemplating what to wear to work to contemplating signing off on an investment arrangement with a bank, and so on. Outcomes are linked to life, and life is linked to the decisions we make. It's a three-cord set that works together.
West Moore made it very obvious that the life results that the other Wes Moore experienced were the result of major life decisions. I decided to move to NJCU from Saint Croix, a tiny island in the Virgin Islands, about 4 and a half years ago.
It was a choice that altered the course of my scholastic, social, and emotional development. It was a difficult decision at first since so many various aspects had to be considered, as well as so many distinct feelings. Of course, there would be critics and many people who would disagree with my decision because of where I came from, but as we discussed in the last assignment, it was my expectations that forecasted where I was headed.
If I had followed everyone else's expectations at the time, I would not have left, but I followed my own. It wasn't about where I came from or the environment I grew up in, but about what I observed for myself. I believe that the intensity of a life choice is related to the consequence of the decision.

Even if our environment influences who we are, what we expect of ourselves, and the future we see for ourselves, we can become controllers of our own destiny. I knew it was a decision that could either break or make me; all I had to do was see if I was up for the task. Your expectations impact your decisions. Your choices are influenced by your expectations. When I evaluated my options, I decided to take the risk and never looked back. Before reaching the other side of that mountain, it appeared insurmountable, and many other considerations prevented me from making such a decision, but when I looked at the top and realized it wasn't as high as I imagined and that I could overcome it, I did.
Making the decision to attend NJCU four and a half years ago was the finest decision I've ever made since it transformed the course of my life in ways that made me a better person intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, and socially. I saw portions of myself grow and expand in ways I don't believe would have occurred if I had stayed where I was. Life begins at the edge of your comfort zone, and it is all about getting out of your comfort zone and into an unknown environment in order to learn the art of adapting and adjusting.

Adapting and adapting to the consequences of your life choices may either strengthen or weaken you. Every day, we make decisions in life; some are bigger and more significant than others, but they all have an impact and may either lead you in the right way or lead you astray; you simply have to be aware of what you do and the kinds of decisions you make. We have no control over what life throws at us, but we do have power over how we respond to it. Making this decision was not easy, and it was not going to be as easy of a transition as I expected, but looking back, I would never have regretted it because who I am today and what I've gone through in the last four years has shaped me to be the future of tomorrow.

Hi Carissa!
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I admire the way that you took initiative of your own life and worked hard to get to the point where you are now. Looking over what others day is something that I believe holds us back from advancing in our lives and it could be difficult to take the next step forward. I'm rooting for you!
