The modern popular broadcast mass media that is specifically targeted at the younger generation is known as pop culture. Pop culture enables young people, from toddlers to adults, to enjoy social and emotional encounters with the environments around them. Pop culture uses a variety of platforms to identify a certain group and individual identities, which serves to define our society and its reality. Because of the echo of lessons learned and group projects completed, we can observe how pop culture media performs a very cognitive and intellectual role. We may observe how the internet and television boost intellectuality and cognitive skills, depending on the platform utilized to promote pop culture.
The article showed emphasis on intellect and demonstrated what cognitive aspects children may retain. The media does quite a great job of keeping its audience on its toes and keeping the attention. There are pros to pop-culture because it can allow children to develop skills in writing especially in narrative or persuasive essay assignments. By depicting situations that made us link to one another in a way that acted as a bridge, pop culture has a propensity to enrich youths' and even adolescents' lives. Pop culture also has an inclusive role in bringing the masses of society together around ideas of proper behavior. According to the article, watching TV makes you smarter, Johnson clearly underlined the importance of romanticizing the past.
He did so in an effort to contrast television with society and demonstrate how, as a result of viewing habits, society is growing more intelligent. It also enables us to make connections between the past and the present by providing a history of the roles that society and social media have played over time as well as their current level of influence. Not only do we understand, but we also follow more intricate tales, which shows how far we have come. Yes, pop culture can have its drawbacks, such as fostering stereotypes that promote racism and homophobia and other forms of complaints that may apply to pop culture. Pop culture, on the other hand, is the only thing that enables individuals to make sense of their immediate surroundings and illuminates societal values.
This keeps happening around the youths, which sets the tone for what their minds take in. Pop culture can also have an impact on how people interact with one another on a daily basis and the kinds of socially contentious dialogues that catch their attention. We are aware that social media has a significant impact on how this younger generation behaves. It is advantageous when they can talk about specific topics they may have read about in an article or observed on television.
Reconnecting back to another part of our group assignment which ranked a specific sentence from the reading which says, “You have to focus to allow the plot and focus on your exercise of the parts of your brain that maps social networks, that fill in the missing information, that connects multiple narrative threads.”This line expresses how television's distinct form becomes increasingly intellectually demanding. The plot has evolved significantly in recent years, forcing viewers to keep track of multiple persons, plots, episodes, and locales. Johnson and his paper demonstrated the flow of television and how it evolves, as well as the cognitive process that has increased the capacities of viewers. Overall, we can see that pop culture has numerous benefits such as social networking, gathering young people, and creating a social climate that may be favorable to the cognitive growth of future generations.
